History
The chambers now known as Young Street Chambers started its life in 1976 with only 2 members, one of whom (Christopher Limb) remains with us. Until the early 1990s the premises were in Sunlight House on Quay Street and the move to Young Street took place in 1993. Sophisticated marketing dictated that the name Sunlight House Chambers became Young Street Chambers! On our recent move around the corner into Quay Street we resisted another change in name.
The membership of chambers has now grown from 2 to over 40 and the range of experience from between 1 and 4 years to between 1 and 30 years. Our reputation has grown in both stature and geographical spread. From a general common law chambers in which almost everyone did almost every type of work, we have developed not only specialist teams but increasing specialisation within each team. From technology comprising 3 telephones and a manual typewriter, we have become an IT based organisation in almost every aspect. From being a close-knit group of friendly and approachable barristers, we have not changed!
Most of our members from the 1970s and 1980s remain with us. Her Honour Judge Newton and His Honour Judge Hernandez have moved to the local Circuit Bench. Several members have part-time judicial appointments. Several members are active in professional organisations.
