- Kevin is currently completing his first six months in a civil pupillage with a degree of emphasis on costs law. Prior to joining chambers, he worked at DWF LLP in their Manchester office as an in-house advocate, regularly appearing in the County Court and the High Court, attending various interlocutory hearings and conducting a volume of trials on the Small Claims Track. Kevin has also been briefed in appeals of case management decisions.
Kevin's experience is wide ranging and includes high volumes of work involving catastrophic injury claims, serious brain injury claims, road traffic accidents (including claims involving the Motor Insurers' Bureau), industrial disease, employers' liability and public liability.
Kevin has a wealth of experience in road traffic accidents where fraud is alleged and has developed a keen interest in cases involving alleged staged accidents and phantom passengers.
His industrial disease practice has focussed predominantly on claims in respect of industrial deafness and asbestos related injury, but is increasingly including claims for Vibration White Finger (VWF), Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and occupational asthma.
Kevin further has substantial experience of taking active briefs at Inquests in the Coroner's Court where civil and/or criminal proceedings will follow. He has also regularly appeared before the Tribunals Service for Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU) Appeals.
In addition to the above, Kevin has substantial experience in the field of legal costs. He previously worked for a Manchester firm of Costs Draftsmen/Negotiators, and during that time built up a considerable and detailed knowledge of costs law. He has experience of drafting both Bills of Costs and Points of Dispute, and has a particular interest in technical arguments. He has acted on behalf of paying and receiving parties at Detailed Assessment and maintains a strong interest in the developing case law surrounding Conditional Fee Agreements (CFAs) and Collective Conditional Fee Agreements (CCFAs).
