Civil Team
The Civil Team covers most common law areas and has a range of experience from newly qualified to thirty years call.
The majority of members undertake personal injury work. Historically Chambers undertook far more Claimant work, but several members now undertake significant amounts of Defence work as well. We have expertise and experience appropriate for claims from the level of small claims hearings to maximum severity cases involving brain and spinal injury. Small work is dealt with particulary promptly. For most work a return of papers within 21 days is the maximum.
Several members undertake notable clinical negligence work. Such has included a significant number of cerebral palsy cases.
Costs work had traditionally had few specialists at the Bar but we are pleased to have several members who have considerable expertise and experience in this area. Assistance can be given in both contentious and non-contentious work. The Team deals with all aspects of costs litigation for receiving and paying parties from preparing Points of Dispute, attending detailed assessments at both District Judge level and at the SCCO, to handling costs appeals at all levels.
In recent years housing work has become a far more important part of the work undertaken. Such is undertaken for both tenants and landlords. All aspects are dealt with and in particular notable work is undertaken in the field of disrepair, possession and ASBOs.
Individual members also undertake various other types of work including professional negligence, contractual disputes, employment law, bankruptcy and immigration.
The individual areas of practice may be more fully appreciated from the individual profiles of each barrister. Our clerks will always be pleased to assist further.
From 2005 the Civil Team will be offering instructing solicitors a substantial programme of free lectures carrying CPD points. Please let us know if you wish to be informed of such.
If you require any further information about Young Street Chambers, please do not hesitate to contact our Civil/Family Clerks, Paul Reeves or Rachel Campbell.
