amos-waldman49x49Amos Waldman defended Nicolas McCarthy, accused of stealing £4,500 from a club where he worked as a barman.  McCarthy was convicted at  Minshull Street Crown Court and received a sentence of a community order of 12 months with a supervision requirement and that he carries out 100 hours of unpaid work.  Read more

ben-myers49x49Two men convicted for their part in the importation of nearly 75kg of heroin were sentenced at Manchester Crown Square to jail terms of 12 years and 10 years.  Benjamin Myers, prosecuting, described how the heroin had been carried into the UK in a lorry, posing as a delivery of photocopier equipment.  In addition, one of the men was sentenced for laundering nearly £210,000 connected with illegal drugs.

ben-myers49x49mark-friend49x49In a case that broke the mould for Trading Standards prosecutions, Benjamin Myers and Mark Friend defended a man charged with fraud and deception arising out of his business as a faith healer.  Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how Niem Mohammed had practiced upon people who were desperate for help with personal crises, even blackmailing one with the threat of a genie.  The jury returned mixed verdicts, including an acquittal on the serious charge of blackmail.

amos-waldman49x49Amos Waldman defended a Big Issue seller who ransacked the home of a devout Christian lawyer who took him in out of pity.  James McConnell, 35, repaid the kindness of devout Christian Richard Rawsthorn by stealing his three prized saxophones and two laptop computers worth £6,000.   McConnell was sentenced to nine months in prison by Burnley Crown Court.  Read more

richard-dawson49x49Richard Dawson successfully defended a man charged with allegations of historic sexual misconduct, as against his half-sister.  Unusually he was only 13 years old and she was only 7 years old during the period of time the allegations stemmed from.  The jury found him not guilty of attempting to rape her and repeatedly indecently assaulting her.
